Weaving workshop with El Limonar International school

I collected information about the rationale for the students colour palette choices and categorised them. Some category groups were used more frequently than others, giving me an insight into how people associate with and relate to place. Some were often used together, indicating that associations from different sources may be linked – for example local colour and memory.

Colour is a key part of my visual language. I am constantly researching colour in the context of light and shadow, texture and surface quality, saturation and colour palette combinations including local colours.

I am exploring metaphors for cultural mixing using the porosity of woven surfaces to represent difference and transition. Below are some examples of my work using different papers with historical contemporary cultural significance (esparto paper, serviette tissue and disposable tablecloth). I am finding that the surface absorb, wick and react to the junctions differently. This is very much work in progress and an areas of research that I intend to return to.
